For more than 200 million years, lizards have been in existence around the world – except in Antarctica. This means they have been around since the time of the dinosaurs. There are more than 5,000 different species of lizards and all of them shed their skin as they mature. The gecko is the most unique of all lizard species because they have vocal cords that allow them to produce sounds, while the other species simply use their body language in order to communicate with others.
Lizards aren’t that harmful to humans and in fact, there are different species that people take as pets, including anoles, geckos, bearded dragons, and iguanas. But most people aren’t that happy their house has plenty of lizards.
Why You May Want Lizards to Stay Out of Your House
Droppings of lizards are quite easy to distinguish. They are black in color and come with white tips. They are quite disgusting and are potentially harmful to our health, particularly to children. They can be anywhere in your home, especially if there are a lot of lizards around the place. They could even drop on your head or your food. The problem here is that lizards often carry salmonella, a type of bacteria that cause food poisoning. Additionally, their droppings can stain the walls, furniture, and fabrics.
Some people also cannot bear the sight of these creeping creatures. No matter what your reason is, here are easy yet effective ways to have the lizards off of your property:
Lizards absolutely hate the smell of garlic, so just put cloves near your doors and windows. You can also get garlic juice and add water to use as a spray.
2. Pepper Spray
Instead of garlic, use one to two teaspoons of pepper powder instead. Add chili powder if you want. Mix with water and spray around the corners, windowsills, and anywhere you’ve seen the lizards.
3. Peacock Feathers
This is quite unusual and there is still no solid reason why apart from the speculation that they associate the feather with birds that prey on them, but lizards are discovered to be scared of peacock feathers. The feathers can be bought online or in local markets.
4. Egg Shells
The smell of eggs will deter lizards because they will think there is another creature in your house.
5. Cold Water
Spray cold water to the lizard whenever you see one, which will make it immobile.
If there are too many lizards in the house, you can consider getting a cat that will take care of those creatures for you. It is also important to keep your house clean by making sure there are no dirty dishes lying around and eliminate insects since they are the food of the lizards.
